Magill Village Upgrade

Updated: Jul 3, 2020

I am very pleased that the City of Burnside has been able to secure $2 million in funding from the Federal Government for the project. The redevelopment of Magill Road is a joint project between the City of Burnside and Campbelltown City Council to deliver a new Magill Village and Streetscape.

The first stage of the Master Plan is to deliver a revitalised streetscape. Undergrounding of power lines has already been completed. Footpaths will also be widened to activate commercial street frontage and include street furniture, landscaping, greenery, water fountains, public art and bike racks. With this improved pedestrian streetscape council is also implementing a safer bicycle network, pedestrian crossing and creating a permanent 40 kph zone around the Magill Village Precinct. Thank you to James Stevens for his support of this project.

I am confident that when completed, the Magill Village update will to transform the physical, social and economic character of the area which maintain its unique character. The result will be a complete urban renewal of Magill Road with better infrastructure for the Burnside community and a great new destination for residents.

The project objectives include:

  • Improvements to public spaces (including road treatments, trees and pavements) to improve the overall character and experience of the precinct.

  • Planning for all transit modes. Improve the efficiency and experience in regard to car parking, pedestrian accessibility, and cycling access.

  • Enhance the recreational assets of the precinct (especially Third Creek and the existing reserves) and consider how they can better contribute to the life and vitality of the Village community.

  • Continue to develop the clear brand and identity for the precinct that communicates the unique offerings of the Village and reinforces an authentic experience.

  • Build a higher quality urban environment.

  • Improve regional accessibility to attract business and investment.

  • Rejuvenate retail activity in the Village.

  • Encourage passing trade to stop and use the Village.
