Penfold Park Masterplan

Penfold Park is a lovely little corner of our community. Located at the edge of Rosslyn Park, near Teringie, Penfold Park is the perfect location for a fun family outing: with barbecues, a playground, two tennis courts, and a rotunda, Penfold Park is already a known spot in the community for a good day out. However, as great as it is, it could be improved.

Minster Vincent Tarzia, Cr Grant Piggott and I hosted a meeting with locals on Saturday 8 August 2020 about how they would like to see their park improved in a future masterplan. We had a fantastic turnout, and it was excellent to hear the many suggestions from local residents.

We got some excellent suggestions. Some include:

A nature playground similar in type (not necessarily size) as the morialta falls playground;

Improve waste disposal; in particular, increase the number of green bins and increase the number of bins around the barbecue;

Improve pathways including formalising them through brickworks and including more nature trails and walking paths complete with appropriate signage;

Improve exercise and recreation options, exercise equipment, a basketball hoop, and better parking for netballers;

Increase seating options, including increasing the amount of seating along the walkways;

Improve the overall maintenance and aesthetic of the park, including increasing the lighting, especially at the Parade entrance, increase the plantings from the Parade to the rotunda, promoting the growth of small plants under bigger trees, and improve the irrigation and mowing of the park.

There were, of course, many more suggestions, and Cr Piggott and I will be looking to incorporate them into a masterplan for the park. Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and submitted their suggestions.

Next steps will be to finalise the masterplan and put it to council for approval. Once we have a masterplan in place funding can then be allocated in our long term financial plan and council can apply for grants

Again, thank you to everyone who attended the meeting, and even those who didn’t who still contacted me with their thoughts. If you were unable to attend the meeting and you wish to contribute the discussion, you contact me at:
