Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of joining the Friends of Ferguson Conservation Park and assisting them in their de-weeding the area.
There are so many weeds in the Park, most of them originating from South Africa. Along with erosion, biodiversity, and water management, introduced weeds are part of the problem in regards to Ferguson Conservation Park.
Ferguson Conservation Park is one of the last remaining natural conservation parks in the State and it's vital that we protect it. That's why I'm fighting for increased collaboration between Conservational Groups (including Saint Peter's Collegiate Girls' School who borders the Park and is part of a conservation group), national parks, and the Council.
I think that we as a Council should assist in conservation efforts by allowing the Friends of Ferguson Conservation Park access to Council resources, including things like arborists, as well as providing assistance in cleaning up projects. We as a community need to commit to protecting the Park so that it can be enjoyed by Burnside residents many years into the future.
I walk through Ferguson park on my morning daily walks. It is very upsetting to see people walk their dogs through there even when it is clearly signed that no dogs are allowed. I wish something could be done about this.
There are many other local parks that allow dogs which is where I walk my greyhound.
